York Pond Trail, Bunnell Notch Trail, Kilkenny Ridge Trail, Unknown Pond Trail (north segment), Mill Brook Road
Fish hatchery to Stark. Snowshoes car to car.
Route up to Cabot was a beautiful snowshoe track. Thanks to all who wore snowshoes over the past week.
No tracks beyond Cabot. I used my husband’s big Tubbs and was happy to have them for 9+ miles of solo trail breaking through 6-8” of nice snow. Route finding was the usual Kilkenny winter challenge but wasn’t too bad. Resorted to GPS half dozen times on KRT. I bypassed The Horn as I had a lot of miles ahead.
My main objective today, the northern segment of Unknown Pond Trail, was a pleasant descent through nice birch forest. Thinking this trail sees little to no winter traffic. Lots of tracks in here!
Mill Brook Trail was not snowmobiled and, incidentally, is not flat. 4.5 more miles of trail breaking through 6-8” snow. Road was loaded with moose tracks and also giant bunnies by the looks of their footprints. Didn’t see another soul all day. |
