Came back out after great snow conditions following Mondays ascent. Began up Glencliff which was beautiful, styrofoam snow with a knee-deep snowshoe track in the upper half. Snowshoed down to Snapper Trail which looked like I was the second set of snowshoe tracks since the new 2ft of snow. Knee deep powder was great to romp over to Gorge Brook which was pretty solid given the large party a few days ago. Post holes grow more frequent as one climbs into the alpine zone - looked like swiss cheese just before meeting the other trails at the summit. A few sporadic rocks sticking out along the ridge trail heading back into treeline. Snow was getting sticky and soft by the time I began descending Glencliff (11am) and saw folks barebooting, some with no spikes at all, leaving some not-so-pretty heel & toe dents in the trail. Snowshoes all 11.4 miles for me today, it is that season, after all. |
