Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Chocorua, NH
Trails
Trails: Hammond Trail, Liberty Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Tuesday, December 20, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Road was plowed but I’d be hesitant in a non-all wheel drive car to drive down it.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts, Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The water crossings were dealable without getting your feet wet. One was a little dicey but easy enough to figure out rock hopping.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Couple blow downs here and there but nothing crazy
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The dogs did great, but it was hard for them with all the snow and breaking trail. I would be mindful of the amount of effort dogs will have to put in.
Bugs

Comments
Comments: The first 0.6 miles were dealable with just microspikes but I recommend snowshoes from there on up. There were huge snow drifts up to my waist (I’m 5’3”) and it was a slow slog breaking trail. It should be easier for the next people but you will still need snowshoes with all the snow up there.
