Comments
Comments: Yes, it is well broken out. Yes, you still need snowshoes.

Including myself, there were 11 hikers on the trail this morning and early afternoon. 9 wore snowshoes.

First thing in the morning, spikes would’ve been ok on Stony Brook. But it thawed a bit in the afternoon. So the nice smooth sidewalk got roughed up a bit.

Carter-Moriah trail had some fresh powder and some drifts, making snowshoes the best way to traverse it. No ice. I kicked some nice steps into the chimney area on my way up to the summit, and wiped them all out during my less than graceful descent. Whoops. Someone should put a hidden camera up there, I’m sure it would capture some comedic gold watching folks tumble down that section.

All intersecting trails were trackless as of 1:30 pm, although a group of backpackers were planning on heading south on Carter-Moriah.
