Comments
Comments: Sawyer River Road was the usual erratic criss crossing of lumpy snowmobile tracks.

From the TH to the old road junction there was unfortunate and aggravating BB postholes and intermittent snowshoe track making for choppy slow going and causing my gait to resemble that of Captain Jack Sparrow. (I left a few body prints on the side of the trail deciding not to fight gravity on a few occasions). A few areas of open water/mud that were easily stepped over. From the old road either the BB turned back or decided to take off their pack accessories (AKA snowshoes) and wear them. Only a single set of tracks with zero trench which continued to make things difficult if you did not have the exact stride or snowshoe length. My petite frame was struggling. From there to the water crossing this continued and they apparently chose to turn around and not cross. I switched into micros to attempt to hop the snow covered rocks. Hand carrying my snowshoes I used them to clear off the rocks and blowdown I chose to hop and managed to stay dry. Broke knee deep unconsolidated snow to the junction with Carrigain Notch Trail. Made it a few hundred yards past the junction and to my dismay lost the trail after the last visible blaze. I consulted my map, AllTrails and my mental image map having been here numerous times previously knowing this is where the trails banks and starts to ascend. I could not find this corridor and fanned out in an attempt to locate it. So if you do head out there before the next weather event you will see multiple tracks in this area. Nearing my self imposed turn around time I decided to call it and head back to the car. Did my best to stomp out a trench on the return.

Do not even think of attempting this hike without snowshoes and some semblance of where the trail goes after the junction.

I am grateful today for the lovely weather with the sun shining and low winds.
