Comments: Trail was awesome! Thanks to everyone who hauled out their snowshoes for the first weekend of "real" snow season. A few hikers were using micro spikes, but I was able to fix the damage anywhere it mattered.

Sometimes you need something short and sweet after doing harder stuff for the past few weeks. The trail as of this writing is in phenomenal shape -- practically an unblemished, sidewalk-smooth hike from bottom to top. There's a storm coming this weekend, so grab this one while you can!

On snowshoes: please wear them, and leave your crampons and micro spikes at home. The snow is deep enough now where spikes aren't your best option. You won't posthole to your mid-thigh just yet; don't worry, those days are on their way. But wearing spikes in snow deeper than a few inches will make potholes and divots in the trail that are a pain in the neck, slow everyone down, and take a lot to cover up and smooth out. Spikes are great in the shoulder months, when the snow is only "halfway there" and snowshoes are more of a hindrance than a help. We're well and truly in snow season now. Your fellow hikers will thank you!

Pictures and a more detailed write-up are on my blog, as always. Share and enjoy!
