Decided to hike the Tripyramids at the last minute. With no published reports, my plan was to see how the trail looked at the trailhead, and, if it looked untouched, to head to the Hancocks (which HAVE been broken out). The trail has had some traffic so with snowshoes on, made my way up Pine Bend. Snow is still soft so snowshoes are really needed even in this broken out section. About 2.2 miles in, following the first initial steep part, the trail ended. I'm assuming that whoever broke trail lost the will (or ran out of time) turned around. I tried to continue on, but the snow is deep and the trail is steep, and being on my own I didn't stand a chance of making it to the summit. I decided to turn around and hike another day. |
