Comments: A MAGNIFICENT day was had near Henry's Woods. I absolutely love how people, after a snowstorm, and even mentioning Portugese Polar Bear (trailslippah's) report decided to NOT bring snowshows. Incredible! I am sure you all had a swell day postholing and rototilling Garfield/Galehead. Snowshoes car to car made the most efficient way of travel, even in the boney miserable mile at the start of Mt. Garfield Trail. Great scenery was had and winter is finally starting to take hold. Another good dumping will definately help. Thankfully the bareboot quartet went to Galehead so this trail should firm up fine as we encountered two other solo snowshoers. We only made it to about 3800 (the cribbing switchback) before we made the call to turn back. It just wasn't the day for a member of our group, and we all decided to turn back at this point for their sake. It was an incredible 10 mile day in snowshoes, my hip flexors came to tell me how much they missed me. <3 you too. Part of winter(like) hiking is knowing to read your group and also take care of them. You can often see things they cannot. This person mentioned they had never turned around in six years, until today. With their pace coming to a halt and complaining of some tell tale medical issues, it was a difficult conversation. SUMMIT IS OPTIONAL. CAR IS MANDATORY. There is no shame in turning back. Hell, I'd say its a flex to know you're at your limit and have to call it. and Be safe out there.
