We put the snowshoes on immediately after crossing 302 to the trailhead.. a few people had been on the trail before us but continued past the Jackson Branch to Mt Webster..we continued up the Mt Jackson branch..this 1.2 miles is now broken out but still loose.. we were a party of 2.. up high just before the scramble, we switched out of the snowshoes and into our K-10’s knowing these would be better for this portion of the climbing and the snowshoes would be more of a hindrance… also, there is ice underneath this new snow, but given the depth, we felt secure knowing that even if we fell we weren’t going far.. 2-3’ drifts encountered up high… snowshoes are highly recommended for this hike in the new snow: and you may want to bring some good spikes to switch into for the ice up high |
