Trails
Trails: Ravine Lodge Road, Gorge Brook Trail, bushwhack
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, December 10, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The road was open for the first 3/4mi, necessitating a 3/4mi or so road walk afterward. Any car should be able to drive it with care. There were small patches of ice every so often to be on the lookout for. I wonder if they’ve kept it open after last nights little snow…
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Ice - Black, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Ice - Blue, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow/Ice - Small Patches
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: I’m not sure that there’s any that are unbridged on this trail…that said the bridges are often one sided puncheons that some may not love walking over. Water levels didn’t seem too high to me
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Is this trail even blazed? Very obvious and easy to follow though. Jcts are well signed and I don’t remember any blowdowns.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I think we saw some. Good trail for hiking dogs with water and easy grades but it’s icy in its upper reaches now.
Bugs
Bugs: None
Lost and Found

Comments
Comments: A gorgeous day to celebrate not one but TWO grid finishes!!! A huge congrats to Kyle and Kathy who decided to coordinate their grid finishes together last minute. How cool!?

Conditions were less icy than I thought. We got away without spikes for a long ways though patches that you needed to be careful around started quite early on though they were rare. No need for crampons but if you only bring rock beaters, prepare to slip n’slide a bit. I recommend average spikes. Dry trail most of the way. It’s crazy how little snow there is. I wonder how much the mountains got last night. Very little wind on the summit and sunny enough that we tolerated being up there for a ridiculously long time surpassingly enough. On the way down we cut the corner by the memorial plaque to save some distance. Short, open whack. We enjoyed a terrific after-parry by the cars with a whos-who of grid finishers!!
