Comments
Comments: This was my fifth round of the 48, and somewhere around 261 or so for my grid. Huzzah! This mountain just keeps getting better.

The blue ice is rock hard. There isn't so much snow on the trail as there is ice, which becomes a bother in some of the steeper parts. That said, it's Moosilauke, one of the friendlier trails in all the Whites, and it's still very early in the season. But nice, sharp crampon fangs will do you better than the vintage pair you hang onto for the same reason you hang onto those battered old jeans. (Micro spikes will be fine as well, but again, not your most worn-out pair.) Snowshoes should be about as effective now as they would be in July. You could, in theory, bare-boot the whole thing, but that would add a lot of time, fuss, and bother to your trip.

Up top, the wind has cleaned things up nicely. A lot of dry rocks, very easy travel along the last part of the trail. I had glorious weather, magnificent views in all directions, and golden, late afternoon sun. What, me worry?

Trip report with a more detailed write-up is on my blog, as always, complete with photos. Share and enjoy!
