I hiked up Eagle Cliff, over to Red Hill and back, and then down Teedee and the little road walk. I used the bypass as the main trail had an obvious ice flow (and more was visible from the top looking down). Other than that there was no ice of any significance. My microspikes stayed in my pack.
The massive piles of dry leaves have been beaten down by the rain and footing is not as slippery as it was earlier in the fall. The trails are very well marked and easy to follow.
Though my PeakFinder app let me down and had me mis-identifying peaks, today, I was about 20’ from a huge owl that abruptly took flight, and therefore I am completely sure that it was an owl! This was maybe 150’ below the junction of Eagle Cliff with the Red Hill Trail. By the time that I wrestled my phone out of my pocket it was pretty far away so I only got distant video. However I bet that others have seen it as I did hear an owl calling the last time I hiked Red Hill, so it’s probably a permanent resident!
The tower is closed for winter, as previously reported, but the view of the Lakes region was marvelous even without the tower height.
I like Red Hill and will definitely hike it again, when I am done with the Hiking the WMG project! |
