Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: If you have a dog that is ok on ice and conditioned for winter it was fine. We followed 3 dogs (and owners) up to the Kinsman Ridge Junction and one of the pups that did not fit the above was bleeding (we had said something down much lower to alert them). On the ridge they saw it was bad and went back down. Lots of blood left on the trail. Know your dog!

Comments
Comments: Far different conditions from two weeks ago. The perfect microspike conditions are gone. There is lots of ice and it is hard and slick. Was able to bare boot well past the Bald Peak junction but once we hit the steeps the Hillsound Trail Crampons came out. Most others were in Microspikes but they did not have the grip of the Hillsounds. Some of the steeps from N to S needed careful, planned foot placement with assists from the vegetation as did the return trip down from N to the Mt.Kinsman Junction.
