 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked at the clearing off Howe Hill Rd, room for a dozen cars. The road is solid. One large puddle consumes the width of the entire road and will soon be a sheet of ice if it ever gets cold enough. After the left turn by the fence, the road becomes rougher. Two gullies were navigated carefully in 1st gear in a subaru. |

straight forward trip to zero out some rows on a spreadsheet. Mt. Black trail is the easier way to ascend, though it's the shadier snowier more slippery side this time of year. We managed to bareboot up, but when we came back down put on spikes because of the ice on the rocky parts and frozen tree roots. Views were muted by cloud cover at the summit. Trucking down Chippewa is taxing on the quads until you get down low, but no spikes needed at all. barely any traces of snow. stopped in at the kilns, which are historical spectacles and on private property. The owners are gracious to allow public access,so be cool if you go visit. The parking on Lime Kiln Rd is small. Maybe 4 cars. The return trip back to the car was uneventful. Didn't see anyone all day, but did note at least one other set of boot prints and maybe dog prints too on descent of Mt. Black trail. Must've been a local neighbor because it didn't look like anyone else had parked in the lot. |
