Comments
Comments: Most of the distance was a spongy ice covered by a thin layer of snow. Microspikes perform well with this surface. Only a few glossy hard ice spots that posed no difficulties. Some short sections of bare ground generally where there was running water on the trail. Some exposed rocks. The short distance on the Webster Cliff Trail to the summit had secure footing (not a sheet of ice). Snowshoes would not be effective under today's conditions.
Many hikers out today including Bruce Crawford and Steve Marion who are trail maintainers, AMC volunteers, two hikers from MA south coast one of whom summited first winter 4K, 70+ hikers, and many others.
Great views of the snowy Presidential Range at the clearing near the junction of Crawford Path and Webster Cliff Trail as well as at the summit.
