Comments
Comments: Reel Brook Road has a few ruts but is easily Subaruable all the way up to the hiker parking lot, took a hard pass on entering the rough parking lot.
This was my first time on Reel Brook, it was mild and pretty, and enjoyable. Used spikes at one of the icy water crossings and left them on most of the day.
Kinsman Ridge Trail had from 3 to 6 inches of snow and there was one set of tracks from yesterday. The ledges were relatively easy to climb up over except for 1 tough spot that I could have used my whippet to assist in pulling myself up and over a scramble - it was due to the snow-covered icy boulders. Great conditions for this time of year, even with the snow melting off the trees it was still a really nice approach to the Kinsmans. From South Peak on it was the regular sidewalk, a well-traveled trail.
Excellent hike with good company.

As a side note, I noticed the blazes on the KRT were definitely not a bright pure white like all the other AT blazes. The blazes look like they've been recently painted, which I'm 100% sure most thru-hikers are grateful for but the hue is a natural color that blends in so well with the trees that at times I double-checked to see if it was a blaze or lichen on the tree. Antique, cream, oatmeal, and off-white but not AT blaze white, could be challenging if one is heavily relying on them.
