| Comments: |
Ammonoosuc Trail was a bit rough on snowshoes due to barebooters prior to last snowstorm. Above Gem Pool, good snowshoeing to treeline - then frozen granular, drifts, and blue ice to hut - snowshoes were okay for ascending, but might not be adequate to descend that. From hut to Washington, then all the way to the lower Eisenhower Loop - crampons. Lots of blue ice, rime ice, frozen granular, as well as some 3-4 foot snowdrifts. Nast side slope ice field has formed between hut and Davis Path junction on Crawford Path. Also nasty ice slope on northern Monroe loop. Snowshoes from southern Eisenhower Loop to Mt. Clinton Road. Crawford Path from Pierce to base was well packed - very few postholes. |
