Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Rocky Branch crossings tricky but doable. Bring extra pairs of socks.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of blowdowns on Isolation and Rocky Branch Trails. Many climb-overs and a few duck-unders.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: My dog never would have made this hike. Very glad I left him at home. Other dogs with a lot more experience might survive this, though. It's not the mileage so much as the trail conditions -- there is so much water on the Iso and Rocky Branch Trails that my dog would have basically swum those two trails -- freezing water and ice-cold mud for miles and miles in winter temperatures...not safe for my little border terrier.
Bugs
Bugs:
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Alex lost her gloves somewhere between Glen Boulder and Slide Peak (Glen Boulder Trail). They are nice winter gloves, child-sized. If anyone finds them, please email me -- they're probably right along the trail.

Comments
Comments: Glen Boulder Trail had some ice and snow, but nothing that couldn't be avoided when climbing the exposed sections. Barebootable.

Davis Path had some snow, but not enough for snowshoes. Some might want light traction (the girls and I went without).

Isolation and Rocky Branch Trails were their usual awful selves. Tons of water and mud everywhere, we rock-hopped most of both trails, felt like we were walking through a river during the 6 mile descent. The snow added to the general mess. Not enough snow for 'shoes.
