Comments
Comments: Virgin snow except for one faint set of footprints from a day gone by. Light traction was the choice of the day by all hikers except one who switched over to snowshoes as I was returning from Mt Willey. There is still bony and semi covered rocks/roots on the trails and there will need to be more snow to fill in the trails. The snow was about 1" down below but about 4"-6" at upper elevations. I was the first one up Avalon which was an energy draining slog. The faint footprints took a bushwack after the clearing beyond Mount Avalon. The unbroken path over to Willey wasn't quite the same slog but still took extra effort and I was happy to see another hiking snowshoeing my way as I returned. There was one set of new boot prints over to Tom Spur. The path up Tom and back down to the parking area was much more travelled. There was some minor balling on the spikes but overall a non-issue. There should be a decent trail for the weekend hikers.
