Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, November 13, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I was the only vehicle at the trailhead when I began my hike - not surprising since it was such a rainy and gloomy day.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The crossing of Pine Brook 0.8 miles from the Kanc was running high, and rock-hopping was not possible. I anticipated this, and brought waders. With those on, wading through the water was easy. If you don't have waders, there's really no way to avoid getting feet wet at this crossing. All others were small and easy.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few blowdowns that were easy to get around. Signs were in place. However, large sections of the trail, mainly 1 to 1.5 miles from the Kanc, had large areas of standing and running water on the trail. Rock-hopping through it is possible but the rocks are slippery.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Shouldn't have any issues.
Bugs
Bugs: None.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None.

Comments
Comments: Despite the clouds and rain, I wanted to redline the portion of East Pond Trail from East Pond to the Kanc today before the snow came and covered the parking area. The trail has generally good footing except for the aforementioned area with standing and running water. Only a few blazes spotted, but the trail was very easy to follow anyway - it's mostly on old logging roads or railroad beds. Due to the clouds, there were no views from East Pond, but it was still very nice to visit. The descent back to the trailhead was quick and easy.

Just as I was about to leave, a car pulled into the trailhead and a man got out and headed up the trail. Despite the fact that it was raining steadily at the time, he had no raincoat, no layers, no pack at all, and no hiking boots (he was wearing sneakers). I hope he wasn't going very far, since he seemed pretty ill-equipped for the conditions.
