Trails
Trails: Cabin Trail, Big Rock Cave Trail, Old Paugus Trail, Lawrence Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Thursday, November 10, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We were the only two vehicles at the parking lot on 113A at 8am. Not many hiking midweek in mid-November.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The Whitin Brook crossing below Big Rock Cave was a rock hop, but care was needed to avoid dunking feet.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails generally in good shape. Note that on the steep climb a bit after the crossing, when you get 1/2 to 2/3 the way up and it seems that continuing straight ahead will lead to some exceedingly difficult big rock climbs, the trail leaves off suddenly to the right, with no marking there right away. This is a bypass leading around those big rocks. Here and there, notably along the Cabin Trail dropping down slowly, the leaves occasionally were deceptively deep, and slippery with mud or hidden obstacles underneath, requiring careful foot placement.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: None.
Bugs
Bugs: None, of course.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found: a small tripod up on the view ledge. If yours, describe and we'll get it to you. Contact deerhaven2@roadrunner.com.
