Parking at the pulloff on the lower end of Carriage Rd in Gilford, room for 3-4 cars in pullout, and limited roadside options. |

One on Piper Mtn Tr, bridged. If there were others they were dry stepovers. |

All trails in excellent condition, thank you. Blazes looked freshly done throughout, signage was well placed and helpful. |

Saw two border collies, both leashed. Great trails for dogs. Not much water throughout for them though. |

Nope, the switch back to cooler air must have done in any warm weekend hatchers. |

Great loop over these three small mountains, we went clockwise. Trails are very well maintained, blazes (every color of them) were fresh and bright. Views were for miles today from the lookouts, with clear skies. Leaves down low on trails are thick and slippery, poles helped, but we did slip and stumble a bit, just that time of year.
After reading about porcupine sightings in various trip reports, I was expecting to spy at least one or two. Indeed, my friend almost stepped on one between the Piper high points, it was sitting in the sun on the trail between the Piper high points,it eyeballed us and plodded into the brush.
These are great little mountains, not far from home. Great for a short outing when time limits longer drives/hikes. Saw no one until Piper where three other ladies were enjoying the couch, then saw a couple people heading up Piper mid-day. |
