Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Not far along the trail after the summit of Field and heading towards Willey, there is a fairly steep spot on the trail that has washed out substantially and sent loose rocks and earth cascading down the trail and into the surrounding woods. Lots of exposed tree roots remain hanging over the trail like a spiderweb. This part of the trail looks unstable to me and I imagine it is prone to further significant collapse due to the grade and the trees losing their balance and the exposed loose earth lacking form

Comments
Comments: Started around 1pm. Up towards Avalon (skipped the summit today), on to Field, then Willey, back over to Tom and down to the parking lot. Wet and muddy on the lower sections of Avalon Trail. The steep part of the Avalon Trail was pretty much dry, did encounter one fairly large rock that has worked itself loose/wobbly so as usual, cautious footing was important. Up to Field was in great shape. Field to Willey and back looked good overall except for the spot noted in the Trail Maintenance Notes. From Field to Tom was in good shape and very fun to move quickly on. Spur to Tom was fine. Moved carefully from the spur junction down the steep part of A-Z as it was the most leaf-covered trail I encountered for the day and was also a bit wet/slippery. Overall a beautiful moody day with very few people out on the trails
