Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, November 5, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Upper cog railway parking lot costs $10 per person and was mostly empty. This saves over a mile vs. the lower parking lot.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Crossings going up were easy. Crossing Ammonoosuc river at the very end of Jewell (next to Cog upper parking lot) has no bridge and there was lots of water. Fortunately, there was a jumble of 10 trees placed across the river slightly downstream that kept our feet dry. Otherwise, your feet will get wet.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Good condition the entire route
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Several dogs were scampering up Ammonoosuc with no problem.
Bugs
Bugs: None

Comments
Comments: The slabs going up Ammonoosuc are fine, but would be tricky coming down (especially if wet). Jewell trail is a very straightforward down hike.
Based on previous reports, we brought microspikes just in case. However, there was zero ice.
Views were great up to within 1 mile of summit. Summit was clouded in with 100' visibility and 58 mph winds. Due to crazy warm November weather (48F summit), we were warm with a light fleece.
