| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Lots of vehicles in the small lot at the terminus of Haystack Road. Parking is allowed on one side of the access road as indicted by the signage. The road is in good condition. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Avoided the first two crossings of the Little River by using the alternative route. I found the best route across the third crossing was the rocks just upstream of the official marked crossing. A couple of the rocks were wet but not icy. All other crossings were minor. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trail in good condition. The alternate route has some rough spots but is overall in good condition considering it is not an officially maintained trail.
As usual, there are mud sections on the North Twin Spur nearer to South Twin although one can usually find rocks to step on to avoid the muck (some rocks covered in mud are harder to spot). |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
Fine for dogs. Saw two dogs today. |
|
| Bugs: |
Saw some flying around but they were not pesky. |

| Comments: |
Great day for a hike to the Twins in November. The road is still open, the temperature was unseasonably mild, the winds were light, and the water level on the Little River permitted relatively easy passage.
The leaf cover at the lower end of the North Twin Trail was not thick like I witnessed on other recent hikes. Minimal to no leaves once you leave the Little River valley.
The trail ascent is mild up to the third crossing of the Little River. Thereafter, the grade steepens with lots of rocks but only a few small ledges.
Spectacular viewpoints on the North Twin ledge looking northeast and at the summit with the southwest outlook. On South Twin there is a 360-degree view as well as a nice outlook an open ledge below the summit.
The ferns in the col between the summits have died back.
Lots of hikers out today. Many are hikers I met on prior hikes including hikers that saw me fall on the ice-covered Osceola by-pass many years ago. Chatted with Hiker Ed and descended North Twin with Joel from Wakefield, NH. The NH Outing Club was also enjoying the Twins today. |
