Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: There are plenty of rocks in the largest brook on the Liberty Spring Trail. No ice on the wet rock surfaces today. There were smaller brooks both before and after the largest brook crossings. None of these crossings were difficult.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A couple of downed trees across the Liberty Spring Trail between the brook crossing and the tent site. Both were easy to step over. Some trees across the Franconia Ridge Trail that are high above the surface. None require ducking. May present a problem with a snowpack.

Comments
Comments: Lots of water-logged leaves at the beginning of the Whitehouse Trail and at the lower sections of the Liberty Spring Trail especially in and around the junction with the Flume Slide Trail. Rocked hopped much of the wet leave section for improved traction and keeping the footwear dry.
The steep rocky stretch of the Liberty Spring Trail was mostly dry.
On descent of the Liberty Spring Trail, be sure to avoid going down the herd path on the old logging road leading to the Basin parking area. On descent, the Liberty Spring Trail takes a sharp left and there is a small pile of sticks across the beginning of the herd path (old road).
Franconia Ridge Trail was mostly dry with a few minor mud spots.
Lots of hikers ascended via the Flume Slide Trail. They reported wet conditions on the steep section.
Great views from both summits.
Hikers originally from Colorado, Wisconsin, New York, and Beijing China and many native New Englanders were out today.
