Dog-Related Notes: Good trails for dogs. The ridge is dry, but is only 2.7 miles from Carter Notch to the ski trails. Plenty of water otherwise. 3 doggos out having a good time. One leashed, the others not. All friendly in any case.

Comments: Route:
19 Mile Brook Trail > Wildcat Ridge Trail (AT) > ski trails > roadwalk on NH 16

19 Mile Brook Trail: popular, gently graded route to the Carter Dome trail junction. Then moderate grades up to the Wildcat Ridge junction. Well blazed in blue, fantastically maintained. Water levels high making the brook a sight in itself. Mud, mud, mud. But shallow though. Running water on trail in several parts. After thru hiking the Northville-Placid trail of NY in multiple rainy days, I no longer care if my feet get wet. There are a plentitude of rocks to keep your feet dry if you wish/care.

Wildcat Ridge: this is the AT and is blazed in standard white blazes. Junction signs up, legible, clear. Many bog bridges to help with muddy areas. Some mud in other parts, not significant. Some blue ice, especially on northern slopes, not enough to warrant spikes… yet. Ledges were all negotiable without issue. I so infrequently come here without snow. What a beautiful moss landscape! A few people met who climbed up from Pinkham Notch. They all said there was no ice on that super steep segment.

Ski trails: consult Wildcat Ski Resort’s website for authorized route. If you pay for Gaia, the route is there. There is a $1 map available for purchase through Avenza maps as well. It’s actually pretty nice… There are hour specifications for winter hikers. Right now the trails are yours. Met super nice local hiker getting his cardio in and looking for moose. Man, I’m jealous. There were several water points for filtering water if you run dry on the ridge.

Roadwalk: it is what it is. We decided to occupy our time by counting the number of non-alcoholic beverage containers vs beer cans. Beer won by a landslide.
