A gorgeous day for our Kinsmans hike! We dropped a car at the Mt Kinsman Trail lot and drove down to Reel Brook Road. Had a short walk to the trailhead for the fun to begin! Reel Brook is covered with leaves, but there weren’t many obstacles hidden underneath. It’s a beautiful trail that follows the Brook for what feels like miles and miles. Lots of mud and standing water on the trail at the upper end. The KRT/AT was also amazing. Lots of mud and water, but nothing we couldn’t avoid. Well, until I couldn’t avoid it after all. Changed into my waterprooof socks before the big climb begins after the cascades. The climb is tough and worth it for the views. There was a thin layer of ice between the Kinsmans, and then between North Kinsman and the Mt Kinsman Trail. Made some parts slippery, but we hiked with care and made it through. MKT had a lot of water on the upper part. By this time we were laughing at it and splashing through. By the time we got to Bald Peak it had dried up. Again, lots of leaves with a few ankle twisters, but nothing serious and it was worth the occasional oof. |
