Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Easy rock hops but some rocks icy
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One significant blowdown too big for my small trail saw, but could be handled by a large one or a bow saw. Some soft mud low which is causing trail widening, but up a ways the cold temps had firmed up much of snow covered mud Cindersmom experienced.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: It was Pepper weather and he loved hiking in the cool temps on a generally firm trail. He met a couple of nice dogs, Lance and Milo, some wonderful humans, June and John, and he told the chippies down low to straighten up as Marshall Pepper is back in town.

Comments
Comments: A last minute choice of peaks due to the forecast, we had beautiful blue skies for much of the hike, and didn't see a soul until we were hiking down a ways. It was seasonally cold but that firmed the trails up, and enough boots had roughed up the icy sections to make it a fast footpath. Some were using microspikes which worked well on this largely non rocky foot path despite the low snow/ice amounts. None were needed on the summit cone. There was a bit of wind on top (<10 mph) but none noticeable elsewhere.

Of course conditions will change from the nor'easter, but if the amounts are modest, I would think either bare boots or microspikes would still be fine since the underlying surface is pretty good except in the usual muddy spots. There are a few places where water still running on the trail could be reached by a snowshoe print and perhaps increase clumping of the expected wet snow, but higher amounts will cover that.

It was another great day on the trails.
