Just west of the NH/ME border, turn north onto Dead Diamond Rd and follow it 1/4mi to a gate where there’s room to park. The road in is dirt but suitable for any car. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
I believe there was a blowdown or two to duck under along the ridge. Other blowdowns show some work and have been taken care of though. The trail is blazed in yellow. Faded but sometimes rather frequently. Nonetheless, I didn’t find the blazing to be very well done. For example, there were two trees, one right after the other, that had double blazes on them, presumably indicating a turn in the trail…yet there as no turn in the trail. Other times, there were obscure turns in the trail but no blaze. The spur to Alice Ledge wasn’t marked as far as I recall but is easy to follow. The jct with Diamond Back Trail (is this new?) which is shown on Gaia is marked but the spur to Alice Ledge is marked and the turn in either direction in this minor col where the trail hits the ridge is obscure. Leaves down on the trail could make it difficult to follow for a beginner. |

Day 357, Peak 352. 4th peak of the day after Abeniki, Greenough Pond Peak (East Black), and Mt Dustan. I’d already hiked this before when I was redlining bud since I was nearby I figured this would be a good one to help me get to 365.
I enjoyed the long and mostly flat 2.2mi road walk in. The trail starts off flat then climbs a steeper pitch to the jct with the spur Alice Ledge. The ridge is a bit of a PITA with a lot of ups and downs. Lots of leaves down obscuring the footbed. Nice views from some ledges along the ridge before the viewpoint at the trails end. The true high point is just a few feet to the side of the trail before descending to the view ledge at the end. Pretty obvious. Unless my GPS was just bugging out, CalTopo seems to have the contour lines and red dot a little off here. No register or cairn.
Gaia had me at 6.75mi with about 850ft of gain. Took me 2.5hrs to complete. Saw someone in their way out as I was on my way in and wondered if they were redlining…I should’ve asked!! 8 more days and 13 more peaks to go… |
