Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: From Rt 16 north of Errol, drive about 4.5mi along New Greenough Pond Rd. Turn right onto a gray line road on Gaia, that, as far as I know, is not named. New Greenough Pond Rd, while it has some rocky protruding from it is wide and should be doable for low clearance cars. I don’t recall this spur road as well though but I think it was much narrower. May want mid clearance. In any case, when the road forked in 0.4mi (shown on Gaia) I took the left fork and continued another 1/4mi to where there’s some logs and the road becomes more of a trail. I’d only go on this last 1/4mi section with mod clearance at minimum due to protruding rocks. Seeing the mud as the road seemed to become more of a UTV trail, I parked here. That said, with 4WD or maybe just AWD and mid clearance you should be okay to continue. The mud gets better after this and it becomes more of a road again.

Comments
Comments: Day 357, Peak 351. 3rd peak of the day after Abeniki and Greenough Pond Peak (East Black).

I followed the “road” now shown as a trail on Gaia another 1.75mi on foot to its HOL. Note that the road did not seem to loop as shown on Gaia: it did not continue (or ceased to look like much of a road) beyond the HOL and I don’t believe there was another road diverging down lower that would make the loop as shown on Gaia. From here, I whacked E/SE to the summit. The woods were mixed but all in all never pleasant and usually bad. Some bushy stuff to go through down low, then some spruce up higher. Not terrible or the worst I’ve been in by far but it was bad with no redeeming factors lol. Moderate grades to start, became steeper as I approached the summit. I hit the summit ridge 0.1mi SW of the summit. The summit ridge was narrow and not very thick but had blowdowns so wasn’t too nice.

Not hard to find the register. I signed in and returned on a straight line to the HOL on the road where I started my whack. I felt like I had better woods up higher on this line though eventually seemed to find myself in the same stuff down low. My advice would be to hit the peak dead on given that I seemed to have better going on my descent. I hit the road and returned the same way to my car.

Gaia had me at about 4.75mi with 1300ft of gain. It took me 2.25hrs to complete. Other than my final peak, this finished up my NH500 Highest for me other than peaks that aren’t accessible due to access issues. All that’s left are “re-dos” of peaks either for fun or because I did them years ago and/or wasn’t sure I hit the true summit. 8 more days and 14 more peaks to go…
