Comments
Comments: In the 1 mile section of the Highwater Trail east/north of the Shelburne Trail intersection there are two water crossings of a side channel of the Wild River created by the storm in 2017. Last year the trail was rerouted to cross the one closer to the Shelburne Trail on a fallen tree that spanned the channel further upstream. The storm from about October 13-14 dislodged the tree from the bank and swept it downstream.

This leaves these options (for now)
1) Ford the channel at this point (not recommended)
2) Cross on a series of downed trees even further downstream. Orange flagging is in place on either bank to guide one to this other crossing. Some flood debris has been removed and branches cut to make the crossing easier, but poles and good balance will be very helpful. This is a longer crossing on a series of several trees.
3) There is a tree across the channel at the mouth of the channel that could be crossed but requires climbing over and through a large pile of flood debris.
4) Wade through the water at the mouth of the channel. It is wider and less deep here but like the previous option will require climbing over and through some flood debris.
5) As always, Turn around, don't drown
