Peaks Sandwich Dome, Jennings Peak, NH
Trails
Trails: Sandwich Mountain Trail, Jennings Spur, Drakes Brook Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, October 23, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: My drive here took me over Tripoli Road. While it is in good shape from Lincoln to the Osceola Trailhead, the section from there to Waterville Valley is in rough shape. Sections of pavement with deep broken out potholes alternating with rough gravel make for very slow going on this section. Passable with low clearance, but caution and lots of pothole slalom required.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Both Drakes Brook crossing and the washout on Drakes Brook Trail were easily manageable rock hops
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One blowdown on Sandwich Mountain trail that has been limbed to make an easy step over. Sandwich Mountain Trail appears to have been recently maintained with all the waterbeds cleaned out. Thanks to the Adopter! There is one fairly muddy area on Drakes Brook Trail, just above the fourth tributary crossing.

Comments
Comments: Foliage is post peak, but this was still a nice fall day for a hike. It's been over 10 years since I last summited Sandwich Mountain, but there was clearance evidence of someone having trimmed the trees at the top and views were better than I remembered. While I enjoyed the view, I'm not sure if trimming the trees to improve the view is consistent with the wilderness ethic.
