Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, October 22, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: A few pull off areas on Sandwich Notch Rd near trailhead for single cars.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: A couple of small stepovers, one wider one with much-decayed bog bridges
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in good shape, no obstructions. Yellow blazes could use a good refresh on the way in from Sandwich Notch Rd. A few yellow plastic markers, but paint blazes are almost completely faded making trail finding in spots difficult with leaves on the ground.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Did not see any, the ledges at about 0.4 mi in from the road may be hard for some, especially chimney section.
Bugs
Bugs: Lots of little hatches happening, midges or some other skeeter like species. Not biting or annoying.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: n/a

Comments
Comments: Lots of leaves down low, obscuring trail in spots right now. Fresh blazes would help with staying on trail. No problem above the ledge section, much fewer leaves down up higher on trail.

We dropped down to the view below the ridge on the Doublehead Trail (about 0.1 mile down), then backtracked out.

Saw one group of three, otherwise had this end of the ridge all to ourselves.

A fair amount of "traffic" on Sandwich Notch Road today.

Muted foliage colors right now, but still pretty. A couple of mushrooms lingering.
