Parking/Access Road Notes: Ample parking today at Rattle River Trailhead, watch the potholes as you enter off Route 2. AND SEE BELOW
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: I opted for waders on the major crossing of Rattle River (just above the shelter) and the crossing a short distance above it. Perhaps a rock-hop crossing could have been found with enough searching. Waders or water shoes might be handy given the current high water levels.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Water bars could be cleaned out. A small but vexing many-branched blowdown on the uppermost mile of the RRT. A small folding saw would take care of it. Two duck-unders on the Kenduskeag Trail a short distance above the RRT junction. Some of the Kenduskeag could use brushing.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: None seen today
Bugs
Bugs: Not an issue
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found: a glove/mitten, which I left at the trailhead. Lost: MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS STOLEN WHILE I HIKED.

Comments
Comments: Trail was quite wet, with many wet leaves, running water, and standing water. The shelter seemed to be in good shape. Two of the water crossings were significant. There are many bog bridges, some on the RRT, many on the KT. Some of the bog bridges are broken, some are off-kilter or at an angle. With everything wet, definitely a day to assume the bridges are slippery until demonstrated otherwise. Only saw two other hikers, both at or near the summit of Moriah. Returned to the trailhead to discover that my catalytic converter had been sawn off (Subaru Forester). This is not a remote trailhead, but rather is located a few feet from and in sight of a busy highway, Route 2. Reported to NH State Police. A very noisy ride home.
