Comments
Comments: This was a quickly forgotten about attempt to Deception. In reading trail reports, I saw that most people either approached from campsite 7 or from campsite 2 and went to Little Deception via the herd path first. Not knowing where these were exactly though and seeing a road on Gaia and CalTopo that was a short ways north of the ponds, I wanted to try and go in that way instead as it would be more direct. A few issues with this: 1) that road isn’t just gated as Gaia and CalTopo show it to be, it seems to be nonexistent. In driving by it, it seemed like it would be more a bushwhack than a walk so we continued on. A short ways after, we came to campsite 8 and parked there. Still north of the ponds and it set us up to better follow a ridge rather than a drainage (though without the help of a road) so I figured let’s start here. Well, we crossed the road, entered the woods and quickly turned around due to my friends time constraints and the fact that this flat area was very sprucey and had lots of blowdowns. Getting to the other side of the ponds inlet seemed like it would be very difficult.
