One low spot where there's a little bit of standing water on the trail, but there's a log that can be walked across. I suspect most of the time this area would be dry. |

I believe this is only the second-ever NETC report on the Wellness Trail, a new trail in the 31st edition of the WMG located behind the Androscoggin Ranger Station on Route 16 in Gorham (the first report was written by the author of the WMG). The beginning of the trail has a bunch of interpretive signs about why the leaves change color - apparently leaves change from green to yellow for the same reason that bananas do when they ripen. Who knew?
The trail is mostly flat the whole way. Parts of the trail appeared to have a gravel surface, but that was mostly obscured by the fallen leaves today. There are some nice views of the Peabody River from the trail, however be careful when approaching the bank of the river since many of the banks are undercut in places. From the point where the trail leaves the river, it takes a rather circuitous route back to the loop junction. There's no sign at the loop junction, however one end of the loop clearly continues ahead toward the river, while the other has a large interpretive sign that is clearly visible from the junction.
This was a nice quick and easy walk. |
