Conditions: Really great shape overall. Some mud with a little bit of running water in the usual places. Stream crossings were easy with low water levels. One large leaner at 3200 ft., that will be belly level this winter. Frost started at 4000 ft. The summit cone had a little bit of ice between the rocks, but no big deal. The summit was coated over with a layer of frost. Views were sparse this morning due to a low cloud level, and there was a chilly breeze, but only on the summit. On the descent, the sun popped out and it turned into a beautiful day. I had the trail to myself today. This hike, in my opinion, is the best bang for your buck, with minimal effort, in the Whites. One of my favorites. |
