|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A significant amount of work has been done on Asquam. New signs, tons of chainshaw/axe work. All trails in great shape. The leaves are 90-95% off the trees on the trail. The lower portion of GBT, before the abandoned trail, has lots of leaves clogging bars. There is a cluster of spruce, just past Jim's summit towards Benton. They are in the trail bed but can be avoided. A nuisance for winter, not that many travel this way once the snow flies. Wands have also been added to the summit area to funnel people into the trail proper.

A pair of boots are at the 'bus stop' looking section above the Lodge. Perhaps they where accidentally left, or their owner was raptured. |

A MAGNIFICENT day was had in the forest. After reading a couple reports from yesterday, I opted for an early start and use obscure trails as much as possible, which definitely made the day better. I opted for the abandoned section of Gorge, as well as using, loosely, the old slide trail, at-least for the bottom half that was delightfully mossy and wet. Superb day to be on the summit, zero wind, not too many people while I was there, and very warm. Took a quick nap on the summit. Went out via BB/ART. Ran into familiar redlining friends! Grabbed Jim, poked around half-hardheartedly for Waternomee, and seriously considered dropping down into Jobildunk. However, being in that ravine and knowing what it looks like, I opted to skip this idea, despite finding the old top out portion of the Asquamchumauke trail. No one knew I'd be going in there, plus no rope, and high probability of cliffing out... not today! The section of ART, from Al Merrill to the ridge crest, the top 75% is largely a flowing river. I did amble on the start of the abandoned Asquamchunauke trail for a bit just to extend the day. |
