Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: From Rt 26 in Errol, I drove north along Coarser Brook Rd for a little more than 6mi to its end on the far side of the bridge over the Swift Diamond River. I then turned right and followed Four Mile Brook Rd East then north for about 10mi and parked W/NW of the peak at the start of the logged clearing. Coarser Brook Rd should be passable by low clearance cars though with some caution around the rockier parts around jcts with other roads and stepper sections of road. I don’t recall at what point, but at some point or another along Four Mile Brook Rd, you’re going to need mid-clearance I think. There’s some minor washout and such.

Comments
Comments: Day 337, Peak 327. 2nd hike/4th peak of the day after the South Tucker (Four Mile Brook Mountain), Chase, and Loomis Valley Brook Peak loop.

From where I parked, I headed into the woods S/SE and planned to slab up to the ridge. The woods started out quite nice with some possible old roads or herd paths. This was just west of the large clear cut shown on Gaia. Some young woods but not thick. As I gained elevation, the woods became younger and/or more hobblebushy and just generally more difficult. I fought my way up to the ridge through somewhat difficult but not terrible stuff. The ridge this low (roughly 2800ft) had some old clear cuts and brush too but wasn’t too bad. As I attained the spine of the ridge, the woods just got better and better. The climb up to the ridge was moderate and the ridge itself looks very flat on Gaia. That said, I hit two cliffs (the first/westmost fairly small, the second larger) that weren’t hard to get around but were no the less surprising to see. A pleasant and quick walk up toward the summit though I believe it was somewhere around the false summit just to the west of the true summit that sprucebegan to appear and you had to be careful to avoid thicker stuff. The summit itself was a bit thick. Nothing awful though. Not too hard to find the register. I returned on basically the same line though I’ll note that 1) I found a slightly easier way off the summit, and 2) down low beneath the ridge my line was a little east of the ascent line and Gaia showed me as in the clear cut thought I had fine woods. So don’t worry about that too much!

Gaia had me at about 2.5mi with 650ft of gain. It took me 2hr20min to complete. 28 more days and 38 more peaks to go…
