Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking at the cog is $10 per person in your vehicle. I believe it's cheaper to park at Ammonoosuc but it adds .4 miles to the trip. May be worth it due to the aforementioned water crossing.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The water crossing at Jewell link past platform A is high and slightly tricky. There are spots to step across but one of them is compromised of wet logs so it's a bit nerve-racking.

Bugs
Bugs: Some clouds of gnats above treeline but not very bothersome. Probably inhaled a dozen or so with my labored breathing.

Comments
Comments: There are some wet and slightly mucky spots due to the recent rain but all easily passable. The only ice to speak of were a few frozen puddles and some icicle bits clinging to the shady sides of some cairns. Microspikes were not at all necessary even though we carried them just in case.
Jewell trail was just that. A gem. So beautiful and very steady incline opening up to amazing views of Washington and the southern Presi's after a couple miles. Still strenuous but nothing very technical.
Decending Caps Ridge off of Jefferson was a bit tricky and slow going after an already tiring day. Lots of steep sections and technical spots that require the rocky-buttslide technique. However, it was a gorgeous trail with beautiful views of the mountains and foliage during the hike out.
