Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All good. Bridges are still there.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I think the edges of Hurricane Fiona were responsible for yesterday's wind and rain and today's winds. No significant new blowdowns, but plenty of largish branches and a few rotting birch trees were lying across the trail. I moved as many as I could along my way up and back down.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Lots of happy dogs out there today!

Comments
Comments: Was thankful for my layers! Could have gotten away with shorts and tee shirt at the start of the hike, but I was happy to have my bobble hat, fleece, and winter jacket at the top. Although the wind was fierce, it was magical above about 4500 feet as frozen rain clung to the trees, shrubs, and signs on the summit. When the sun peeked through, it was a world of crystalline beauty! Footing was completely fine, but there was a lot of melting ice falling off the trees and turning the flatter segments of the high elevation trails quite wet and muddy—no special traction needed at all; my Sauconys were just fine.

Families, dogs, trail runners, and mountain bikers aplenty to keep the middle-aged hikers like me company.
