Day 313, Peak 290. Quick post-work hike. This hike isn’t on the official 500 highest list, though as I understand it, it should be.
I walked about 0.1mi up FR181, which is now overgrown though I noted pavement beneath some of the grass, before starting my whack. I whacked SE through some overgrown skidder roads and young growth, bordering on brush, with a small open area shown on Gaia just to my west. Grades were easy. As the woods opened and became more pleasant, the grade steepened as I approached the summit. I came right up to the RHP. Red blaze still visible on a tree but a small register is much more obvious. I walked to another very close by locally highpoint though the register seems to be correctly placed. I signed in and returned down. I unintentionally took a more northerly route down, at times a 1/4mi east of my ascent line. Not much of a difference. I came out on FR181 1/4mi east of Rt 3. A wetland was just to the right/east.
Total hike was about 1.75mi with 500ft of gain. It took me 1hr to complete. 52 more days and 75 more peaks to go… |
