Comments: Saturday was a perfect day for the whites! Sunny, warm and 111 mile views up top! Our goal was to hike the entire Crawford path from Washington down so we didn't hit all the southern summits. We caught the hiker shuttle at Great Glean trails at 9 AM - for those wanting a quick up this is a great option - first shuttle at 9 AM but then runs on demand - it does cost $50 but we found it a great way to get up to Washington. We were up early enough the the crowds weren't that bad at the summit. Perfectly sunny skies up top that stayed with us until past Eisenhower when a few clouds started coming in. Heading off Washington we hit a long line of hikers heading up, literally hundreds between the summit and Lakes of the Clouds. A brief hut stop for water and continued down the Crawford path around Monroe -Monroe was itself really crowded though we only ran across 5 people on the Crawford path between the Monroe loop ends. This route has pretty impressive views in this stretch. From Monroe loop junction headed down Franklin, A bit of new trail work on Franklin putting in log steps is a few places. Did take short detour to Franklin Summit and then back on Crawford - continuous views until we got to the base of Eisenhower. Took a left to continue on Crawford path around Eisenhower. You can tell this section doesn't get much traffic, saw dozens of people heading up Eisenhower but only met 2 others in this stretch. The area does have branches closing in on the trail and has a little mud, there is a little stream where one can stop for water. Past Eisenhower there are also a few small streams with water and a bit of mud. Took the short side trip to Pierce and headed down. Below Pierce there are a number of stretches of trail that have water running. A long day for us two but it was a fantastic hike. As the Director of operations told us at the top you only get 4 or 5 days like this up here in a year. We did see three SAR staff heading up to Mizpah, where there was an injured hiker.
