Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All brooks crossing the Pine Brook Trail were either low or dry. Crossings are easy.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One hardwood tree across Pine Brook Trail (8: - 12" diameter) about three feet off the ground that is easy straddle over. Near the upper brook. One tree across the Pine Bend Brook Trail uphill from the junction with the Scaur Ridge Trail. About 4' above ground. Can duck under or walk around. In wilderness area. Some trees crossing high above Pine Bend Brook Trail. No problem at this time. May cause problems with snowpack.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Fine for dogs if comfortable with steep rock sections (most often there are subsidiary paths that avoid the steepest ledges). Not much water in the higher elevations.

Comments
Comments: The Pine Bend Trail is relatively easy up to and a bit beyond the Wilderness boundary. Many brook crossings that can be tricky in high water (not the case today). Above this point there are steeper sections with some rocky footing although some rock steps have been emplaced in spots to facilitate footing and control erosion. The trail between North and Middle Tripyramid is mostly easy. There is not much mud due to the dry conditions.
There is an obscure herd path off the Pine Bend Brook Trail just steps uphill from the jct with Scaur Ridge Trail that leads to a north outlook to Mt Carrigain and Mt Washington. Hobblebush and fern growth hide potions of this pathway.
Some limited views from both peaks. Don't expect sweeping views.
Many hikers out today using the Pine Bend Brook and the Slide approaches. Walked much of the higher elevations with Steven from Haverhill NH. Chatted with a hiker from Goffstown NH and another who originally hailed from Bangalore India.
