 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I followed Cedar Stream Rd for a little more than 13.5mi before turning left onto what’s shown on Gaia as Rowell Brook Trail. I followed this for 3/4mi to a point E/SE of the peak at about 1950ft. You probably won’t see them as you’re driving, but I parked right next to the yellow blazes that mark the Pittsburg/Clarksville town boundary. Room to pull off on the side of the road. If I’m remembering and understanding other trail reports I saw on here correctly for this peak, it sounds as if some approach it from a road a little more than 12.5mi in Cedar Stream Rd that’s on the left and travels north ending south of the peak. I saw this road as I was driving but didn’t attempt going up it as it’s very steep at its start and looked to be washed out. I didn’t take a good look but I think my car would’ve struggled without AWD. May need high clearance too. Cedar Stream Rd should be okay for all cars with care though miles 3-7 or so are tougher than the rest. Rowell Brook Rd should be okay for small cars with care too. |

Day 301, Peak 281. 2nd hike/peak of the day after East Pisgah.
As others have noted, you can follow the prolifically well blazed Pittsburg-Clarksville town line to within a short distance of the peak. The boundary isn’t shown on the free version of Gaia that I have but it is shown on CalTopo. I parked right next to it and followed it into the woods. Moderate grades, good woods, and good footing. It went through a very small brushy or wet area or two but it was easy to just walk around and reconnect with the yellow blazed boundary. Rather than follow the boundary to within the shortest distance of the peak, I left the boundary after a little more than 1/2mi of hiking around 2350ft and headed NW up to the summit. I reached the summit in about 1/4mi. The good woods continued to the summit. Easy to find the register. I signed in and returned on the same bearing at which I left the boundary but somehow wound up descending more southerly to the point along the boundary that’s closest to the summit. Oh well, small difference. I followed the town line back down about 0.7mi to my car.
Quick, easy, and enjoyable hike. The hike was just shy of 1.75mi with just over 500ft of gain. Took me 55min. 64 more days and 84 more peaks to go… |
