 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked at gate at the start of Columbia Rd. This is about 3/4mi before you reach the gated end of Nash Stream Rd where I was earlier. The road in was its usual self; very bumpy at times with the occasional small rock poking up; nothing a small car shouldn’t be able to handle with care. The road does narrow some near its end but isn’t really any rougher. There’s many cabins/houses toward the end of it so actually seems pretty well travelled. |

Day 300, Peak 279. 2nd hike/3rd peak of the day after bagging Moran Notch/West Muise and Muise/North Whitcomb.
The road is a bit overgrown as to be expected but is actually quite pleasant. Decent walking/footing and passed through the bog which is scenic enough. I enjoyed this hike much more than I thought I would! The vegetation had also mostly dried out by this point in the evening as well from the rain the night and day prior. The road would seem to also function as a snowmobile trail in winter. I walked up the road for just over 1.5mi before starting my whack at about 1925ft. I was a bit worried about cliff bands on this side but took a bearing right for the peak and dove into the woods. Flat for a short ways around the drainage and open woods. I then tackled the steeps. Woods were still open and there were no cliff bands; just steep but they didn’t even seem to last that long. Nevertheless I got pushed to the right and wound up on the summit ridge or plateau at least a few hundred feet shy of the summit. Easy walk from there to the highpoint. The register was easy to find. I signed in and took a direct bearing down. I stuck to it better this time. Still no cliff bands but it got a bit bouldery with some undermined footing. Not too bad though. I hit the road again in the same spot and enjoyed my walk out :) This was a nice little one!
The hike was just over 4mi with about 700ft of gain taking me 1hr50min to complete. 65 more days and 86 more peaks to go… |
