Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Oregon Mountain, NH
Trails
Trails: Carter-Gibbs Trail, Oregon Mountain Trail, Elwell Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, August 27, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Room for several cars at trailhead on Hardy Country Road. Hardy Country Road is becoming a bit eroded in some spots -- moreso than we recall over the past several years.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nothing of note.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails are generally in good shape. Carter-Gibbs Trail and Elwell Trail are a bit brushy in just a few sections -- beech saplings and hobblebush -- but nothing requiring urgent attention. Carter-Gibbs has two small duck-under blowdowns (Silky saw) and one large walk-around/crawl-over beech tree (E-saw), all within a couple tenths of a mile north of the second water crossing (prior to the climb-out switchback).
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Nothing (oddly).

Comments
Comments: Quiet stroll in the woods with no one else but us and some crabby red squirrels.

Rope on climb-up ledge on Carter-Gibbs was helpful; recent rain made that steep section a tad slippery. (Rope is in good shape.)

New and updated signage near various trail intersections makes sense.

Prominent (and recent) property for-sale sign near the trailhead.
