Cornice is very brushy in spots. Normally wouldn't be a problem, but it obscures the footbed in places, which is riddled with roots grabbing at you and significant holes/voids making for some treacherous foot placement. |

A bunch seen mostly enjoying the day. As always be careful/prepared with the talus above treeline. Can rip apart soft paw pads. |

Like everyone else in the world, I saw the weather and decided to head above treeline for some overdue redlining. Unfortunately, the clouds/fog stuck around for a while and things were more damp than anticipated. Oh well, still better than howling winds and rain. As far as the trails go, Westside is awesome with its flat stepping stones, while the Cornice is the exact opposite. Very difficult with foot placement due to the deep voids between boulders as well as the odd angles at which they sit. Took much longer than expected (probably due to tired legs at that point and heavy pack). Spent the night at the Perch with a group of guys doing a 2 day Presi. Good company, if not a bit boisterous, but they were out by 9 and up early with me. All in all a nice day on the Rockpile. |
