Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Most are easy stepovers, a couple easy rock hops. Water was flowing in most of them, low flow condition.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few easy stepovers on each trail, one bigger maple down about 0.5 miles up Old Mast Rd from Ferncroft lot, too low to limbo, to high to step over. Looks new, no sign of trail creep around it yet.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Sure, trails good for dogs. Right now streams down low will provide water, but carry some for the last couple miles to the top as it is all dry up there.
Bugs
Bugs: No buzzers or biters, but I took lead on the way up and spared my friends of the spider webs to the face all morning.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: n/a

Comments
Comments: The box canyon on Kelley Tr was all that and more than the trail books indicated. Wow. Cool rock formations and moss covered rocks. Definitely neat looking in there. It must have been wild when that ancient lake let loose to scour that canyon.

Great clear views of Passaconaway and Whiteface from the SW ledges, along with Hibbard and Wonalancet, among others.

Few flowers/berries- aster, blue bead lily and a hobblebush with berries, and a couple clusters of Indian pipe, and colorful mushrooms today.

Just our group of four on the trail that we saw, heard retreating voices from a different trail as we summited. It seems most peeps took to the neighboring higher peaks, which are indeed beautiful, but today was a path less traveled, which was happily taken and enjoyed. I have looked at Mt. Paugus often from Squam Lake when I spend a day there, nice to finally stand on Mt. Paugus and look back at the lake.
